When Maggie was younger, I used the crate at night, with a cover over it. It was located next to my bed. At night, I took her outside every two hours . During the day, she was under constant eye. If I couldn't watch her every move, then she was placed in her x-pen. During the day, I took her outside every hour. She is 5 months old and completely housetrained. She now rings a bell on our backdoor, to be let outside.

Which ever method you choose, just remember to stick with it. If you slack one time, you might as well start over. Took 2 months, to completely train Maggie.
