I have several cats, one on a diet. I used to free feed them until the diet came. Now, everyone eats at the same time, supervised. When they stop eating, the bowls come up. I offer food again a short time later, again supervised. When done with that, there is no more until the next meal. All have learned to eat when it is put out or go hungry.
