I live about 2.5 hours south of Orlando on the Gulf side. Originally from Virginia, lived there all my life and decided to move and been here 5 years. I don't miss the winters except during the Christmas holidays. I love the heat way more than the cold so I don't mind the Florida summers.
Hurricanes are scary though but that is the price you pay for living in sunny Florida.
