sorry one last thing...think about how hard it is for you to try to stop once you have started...then to be picked up and carried, he probably can't physically stop once he has started.
Also, just like my 2 daughters, my puppies get to playing so hard they tend to forget about bathroom time. So take him to the bathroom every 20 minutes if you have to. He will eventually get the idea, but you have to show him what you want...also, is he fixed? How old is he?
