The #1 reason for returning or rehoming a Yorkie puppy is inability to housebreak. I have seen them rehomed at even two years old.
Given your husbands reluctance to have this dog in the house, I would suggest finding a whole new home for it. It isn't going to work out with you and I would rather see him in a home that can handle these issues.
The more wound up you get over potty issues, the more sensitive the dog is and the more likely there will be marking and accidents.
Before one of my puppies goes to a new home, the whole family has to be enthusiastic and they are well informed about all aspects of Yorkie ownership, upside as well as the downside. |
I also agree with Lorraine. Given your husbands feelings and his unlikelyhood
to change his mind I don't think experimenting is really in the best interest
of the dog. And that is what this needs to be about...I have yorkie's as old
as 3 years old that still have the occassional accident. Do I like it NOOO but
the one thing my husband and I both share is we enjoy them in our lives so
much that we can overlook the negative issues just the same as we did with
our not perfect children.
There are many other breeds out there that might be a better match up for
your family and instead of getting your heart so attached and then not having it work out I'd say look at the options of finding a new family member
that is loved equally by all from day one. Good luck to you and your family!
