If they poop on the pad, of course I pick it up and flush it. But when I wash the pad I usually run it through a prewash or rinse. Then just wash as usual. It does not leave any smell or residue in your washer. If you like you can put Odo Ban or white vinegar in the last rinse.

It is really not a problem. When they are soiled I just fold them in quarters with the dirty side in and stack them by my washer until I have enough for a load. They really don't stink that way.

Then I just dry them in the dryer. They come out great! Don't use fabric softener or it will reduce the absorbency.

Before the days of disposable diapers we washed the cloth ones in the washer they same way.
