The coat sounds more wiry then modified...soft/cotton/modified as a rule are quite thick and grown in abundance. A coarser coat tends to break rather then grow...
The Yorkie club of the Nations Capitol used to have a fun match in Janurary, a few weeks before NY...I have been in FLorida for 3 yrs so I do not know what is going on in 08..but you can contact Mary Trimble...get number from YTCA. There are many good shows in the Va area also..some bring puppies..you have to make it known you want to learn what is correct..
As to the fun match, many used to bring puppies of all ages, some to socialize, others to show..ages start at 3 months for a fun match...it is a good way to see puppies close up and learn about coats. There are no secrets, it is simply a hands on thing you learn from looking and feeling dozens of coats...looking at the parents, line, puppy...only so much can be learned from forums, books or photos...you have to see actual color and feel texture...best wishes |
