Max does this in the morning mostly too. He sleeps under the covers and when he first wakes up, he starts licking my arms or hands. He always has jumped up on us first thing in the morning and started licking our faces, which I think is to say "I'm ready to be fed now, so get up", but the arm/hand licking started later. I don't know exactly why they do this, but I have a feeling it's normal.
