not sure about the coat changing
but for training just have patience and be persistent!! If you take them outside and shes not doing anything then only wait 15 mins and then go back in and maybe wait 15 more mins and then take out again. Ceasar millian says that sometimes dogs forget what they are going outside for. So do let them be outside for more than 15 mins trying to get them to potty because then they think they are out there to play.
i say if its a puppy as for how long between each regular go out every 30 mins.
