Rescued Yorkie HELP!!! Have just taken from a dear from her little Yorkie.. Unfortunately, I think this dog was purchased from a "puppy mill" in Kentucky.. Sophie has had numerous problems and has required surgery (Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease). Our dear friend when she bought the dog was possibly at the beginning of dementia and Alzheimers and the dog was carried everywhere. Since our friend lived in a small condo and had problems both of them spent days sleeping and very inactive.. When we took her home Friday she could barely walk, her hind legs are in terrible shape. I've started my version of therapy...yesterday walking/dragging her on a harness for a short walk..past three houses.. then carrying her back home...after resting a bit.. she seems to be much better. Today she walked behind me instead of being dragged and seems very active in the house and happier. She loves being out on our deck in the fresh air.. since she was a city dog, she doesn't really know grass. Her appetite as of today was excellent..she is on Iams. Not only did she eat her tablespoon of food she went to the dish of my other small dog and worked on that until I gave her an additional portion... and kibble. Her eyes need work, she needs a bath and I've used a very soft brush on her one night and I have a comb. She has an eye problem and I wonder if it can ever be cured.. I know she needs drops twice a day.. Oh yes... she appears to have a wonderful temperment.. and although she was supposed to be a tea cup size she weighs about five pound.. Her medical folder is not to be believed.
Can somebody give me some guidance in where to start and if I'm doing things properly!! We've had good luck in adopting a mixed breed a few months ago and overcoming her problems.. but this little Yorkie really has physical problems that I want to work on and work with her |
