Welcome to YT! That is excatly what we do with Max while my husband and I are at work. We leave him gated in the kitchen with all the toys he has. But most of the time he's asleep in there but he has room to move around. Just make sure he has enough toys as Max found that pulling out the linoleum tile was fun, so we had to re-do the whole kitchen floor in the apartment.
