A yorkie health question Hi Everyone,
I am new to this board. I bought my sweet, little yorkie--Hercules--back in Feb. He just turned 1 year old. I was never prepared for how much I would love him. He truly is my 4th child!
I have a question for you other yorkie lovers out there. When we first bought Hercules, he would throw up about every 10 days or so. I know yorkies sometimes have sensitive little tummies, and getting adjusted to his new family, I wrote it all off to that. He also hates his crate. It caused him so much anxiety, he would drool profusely. The vet told me some dogs are more timid/anxious, and he would just have to get used to being in the crate. He never really has gotten used to it. I started putting him in our mud room when we left. He had the same drooling result. Hercules is trained to go in a litter box with a piddle pad in it, so I have finally given him the run of the house. The drooling and anxiety are gone now, and when we leave, he has never damaged a single thing in my house. He is such a good, little dog and so trustworthy!
The upset tummy thing still happens, but now it is about every 4-6 weeks. I had to cancel getting him groomed yesterday because he was a little under the weather. It started out of the blue with him getting chills (shivering), he didn't bark at neighbor kids coming into our house (he ALWAYS barks when people come in), wasn't playing, he felt warm like he might have a fever (I don't know for sure because I haven't a clue how to take his temp), no appetite, acted lethargic, soft poop, followed by a couple vomiting episode spaced out over several hours. This usually lasts 24 hours, then he recovers as quickly as it came on. I don't take him outside often, especially as the weather is getting colder, and he does do his "thing" in the indoor litter box.
Does anyone else have a dog that experiences these brief, but regular, illnesses? I would appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thanks and enjoy the Holiday Season! |
