Default If you're not going to breed, I suggest neutering.....

We've had lots of male dogs, all neutered at 6 mos or whenever we got them. It protects their health as well as inhibits bad behavior. Our older dog (10 years old) marks outside only. He lifted his leg one time at my mom's house, got a good scolding, and has never done it since. Coby (9 months old) has lifted his leg only twice outside so far (once falling into the tree and once falling away from the tree, so he hasn't even tried it again yet).

I don't know if it's a 6 month trait or a neutering trait, but all my pups have calmed down after neutering. They still have tons of puppy energy, but not that manic craziness.
