I made a step for Gypsy when she was little. She had an upturned carboard box with a pillow case on it to stop her from slipping. Worked perfectly.
We still have it next to the bed now but it has a wicker basket on it so her bed is the same height as the mattress so when she gets fed up of being moved about, (she takes up far too much bed for a little dog!), she goes and gets in her basket but she still feels like she is on the bed because she's the same height as me.
