We have a beagle mix and aside from being a little jealous at first, he does ok with Callie. We do not let them play together unless we are right there with them because the beagle has stepped on Callie. (It didn't hurt her but we're still very careful to watch the two of them.) He was trying to get back outside away from her and like always she got got under his feet, he didn't mean to.
