My 2 love the mulch from the garden, which scares me. Maybe you could spray the wood with vinegar?

It's pricey, but lasts awhile. It mades a loud PSHHT! spray of air, and is motion sensitive. A few scares and they get the picture. Now... how would it work on a Yorkie?
My little stinkers would get so ticked off at it, and likely attack the can... so I dunno.
Oh, my one dog likes to chew on wicker baskets. Not to make it more complicated, but you might want to keep an eye on that if you go the basket route.
