How successful you are with housebreaking him depends a lot on you. You will have to watch him at all times when he is loose and keep him confined when you can't. Most potty training problems are the result of the owner giving a puppy too much freedom. If I puppy gets used to going in inappropriate places it is much harder to housetrain him as he will be drawn back to the same spot.
How old will he be when you bring him home? Yorkies should stay with their mothers until they are twelve weeks old. A good breeder will begin pee pad training the puppies before they go to their new homes. This will get him off to a good start. Puppies raised in cages that get used to going potty in the same area that they eat or sleep can be really hard or even impossible to completely housebreak.
Another consideration is whether or not someone will be home with him during the day. If he is left alone much of the time potty training will be much harder and take longer because you won't be home to reinforce positive behavior.
Since you have chosen a male, you must be sure to get him neutered as soon as your vet thinks it's safe so he doesn't start to mark his territory by lifting his leg. Marking in the house seems to be a little dog thing.
You will have to accept the fact that he will have accidents the house. That's just part of being a puppy. If you can live with that and are willing to work hard to housetrain him, you should be successful. |
well thats one thing i had doubts about was the breeder. the breeder had 12 puppies and he said they were all between 9-12 weeks old. when i asked if he had the parents he said he had all the puppies shipped from ireland. also the only shot that he was going to give them was the parvo. so to me i was not to sure what to think of that.
