I have a friend who puts her cats food on top of the dryer so the dog doesn't get at it. Maybe you could put it up where Layla can't get it.
Layla is just going thru what a lot of only "child" fur-babies go thru. She just doesn't know what her routine is now that it's out of sync. She's just going on the laps because it's a security blanket that she is use to. She will be just fine.
