Grief is a weird thing. Some people would feel they are betraying their "passed" puppy... others need something... someone to help them through the grief and actually end up bonding better w/ a new pup than they can ever imagine. I grew up on a farm and lost many pets over the years...I always did better w/ a new one right away... but one of the reasons I want to get my mom a new dog now is her older maltese is getting on up in age and she would never be able to get a new dog after the maltese dies... you know? Since you have had time to prepare for this (as much as you can possibly prepare for putting a dog down) it may be easier for you to get a dog regardless of which cat. of griever you are.
