Default Claw Injury

I might be taking Wylie to the vet today. He has injured a claw AGAIN, this is the 3rd time. The first time it happened, we did go to the vet bc I thought he may have broken a toe, but it was a claw injury.

I'm beginning to wonder if some dogs have weaker claw-connective-tissue or something. What I think happens is that he catches an outer claw (usually front paw) on something when fetching or playing, and then starts bleeding where the top of his claw meats the skin. It's just terrible! I think it hurts dreadfully, he usually limps for a couple days and we don't allow fetching for about 2 weeks, to give it rest. We spray it w/ gentamycin.

And then, happens again! Anyone have this problem too? I'm just at a loss on how to protect my little fetcher from injury - and Wy cannot survive without fetching!
