I know where you are coming from!!....... I have a little girl that absolutely despises the vac!!! She also attacks brooms and swiffers!! In the meantime, she has taught her little brother to do the same.
I find it easiest to have my hubby take them out on the patio for a little while so I can vac. (Or they go into another room and "play")
We are working on the "Discipline" approach, but she is quite persistant (as I am also trying to be).
