Some people free feed like that, and some feed at scheduled times and pick up the food if not eaten after a certain period of time...
I like to keep food out for Pippa all the time, she is 14 weeks but really small and so while I don't really "free feed", I put out small amounts four times a day and I don't pick it up...so she doesn't have unlimited access, but she has all the time she needs to eat...does that make sense? I also keep a little kibble in her pen at night, it's just too long for a 24 oz puppy to go without eating...
