I added a 10-year-old rescue to our family when my first was 2 years old. Both are males, and it was a rocky start. My 2-year-old turned into a snob when the 10-year-old didn't want to play rough with him. And then he turned into a toy hoarder.

But they've been brothers for almost two years now, and I can honestly say they get along great.

I think you would have even better luck with a spayed female.

As long as you can spend time with them and you're not getting a second one for the sole reason of keeping the first one company, do it! Two is better than one.
