My friends used one of her maltese when she first got him. It wasn't exactly like this one but pretty much served the same purpose. Hers was actually a small round blanket that had a dog curled around the edge which had a heartbeat. She absolutely loved it. As soon as she put him on it he fell asleep. She never had any problems with him whining.
