Thanks for all the responses everyone-I forgot I started this thread, and I was just cleaning up my CP today and found it, buried under all the GE threads
I did end up getting duraflame fire logs-they work like a charm!
I called the guy we bought the firewood from (he was also our chimney sweep, so the wood should be dry and of good quality). He recommended that we get starters too-which I already had since we were so frustrated!
The wood we bought is all oak, which should burn longer and better overall than other wood-according to the guy we bought it from. He also recommended bringing it inside 24 hours before burning, in case there's something cooky going on with the humidity outside.
We had a couple fires going during Thanksgiving-thanks to the duraflame starters, no prob!!!
