I agree. "Come" is obviously the most important. But it's also the hardest. If you start with sit/down/stay, you both build up confidence and trust. A variation on the stay that is fun is to put them in a stay and lay out three or four treats in a row about 6 inches apart. Release with "okay" (or whatever your word is) for one treat and then have them "stay" again again for the next. So it reinforces that even when they've been released and the prize is right there, you are still in charge. Also work on two (or more) dogs side by side. All these are super easy to teach with treats. Then when you feel all cocky like the great trainer you are

then formally tackle the come command. (Although you can teach come informally all the time just calling and treating.) Good Luck and congratulations!!
