Considering that hundreds of thousands of people have had the RNY the death rate is very low. It does happen tho. Most of the time it is people with major health problems going in to surgery but i have known of people throwing bloodclots. That is what causes the deaths usually if it is a person that is otherwise healthy. it is by no means a safe surgery but the death rate is no higher than any other surgery. it is also by no means a cure -all. it should only be used as a last option when you have tried everything else.
