Hi Gang,
My 10 1/2 yr old Buffy has a nice combo of these problems plus some more
1. she has a heart murmur = Meds for this is Enacard 1mg 1 a day
2. she has chronic bronchitis for this is Theophylline 100 mg 1/4 2xs
a day (this one I get at Walgreens). During summer when air is very dry or the air is bad from fires
3xs or also in the winter when we have the heater on.
3. she has sinus problems, very prone for sinus infection can easily happen
from ear infection then goes to the eyes, then to the chest.

= Meds
lots antibiotics must treat all at once ears, eyes, nose, and chest infection
She gets stuffy in the winter from the heater along with the bronchios
close up with the heater. Med for the nose is Prednisone Acetate 1% 2
drops in each nares......is works great opens up the nose in about 5 mins.
4. she also takes a medication call Salix 12.5 mg this is so water does not
build up in her chest and pressing up on her trachea leaving a
very
small air way and causes the that honking sound. Some times when they
are struggling with this part they panic, freak out and it causes a heart
attack........
One thing I have found that helps in the summer and winter is a Cool Mist
Humidifier......pay close attention "Cool" not the ones with hot steam, with this
we can have the heater on and Buffy won't have breathing attacks also you
will sleep better your sinus wouldn't be so dry and help snorring too.
Until you get one you can take them out side when they get a breathing
attack to get cool air.......I would stand at my sliding door way
in my night gown at 4 am with her all wrapped up in her blanket for about
1 or 2 minutes until she was breathing ok.
Also hold them try not to put presser on her chest and talk to them very
calm teaching them to calm down and take their time breathing.......after
a while Buffy did this automatic. Also you can put them infront of a Fan,
this save Buffy's life one night a 4 am while we drove her to the ER.
The reason this works is the cool air opens up the bronchos just like the
pump for a person that has asthma, it pumps meds with a cool mist into
the lungs.
I'm no expert I'm just sharing by experience with Buffy, if it wasn't for the right meds and tons of praying with her I would say she would not have made it to 8 yrs. She was having breathing attacks 2-5 a day now its about once or twice 5 to 6
months......big diff's the first she didn't have a breathing attack for 2 wks oh man I wanted to go dancing to celebrate after almost 1 yr of daily attacks
Sorry this is long....if any of you have any questions please feel free to pm....I put it all here you take what you think applies to your furkid(s).
Best Wishes,
