Hi Jess,
I am so bad! I keep food available for dogs under age 1 yr at all times. I just never limit their food. I feel their bodies know what nutrients they need and I think puppies need extra fat, just like any baby. I do limit special food I give them, such as baked ham, beef, eggs, or certain canned foods because they like this stuff so much they would become obese! My experience is with my dogs they stop when they are full. I havent had a problem with vomitting.
Its really hard to determine your dogs exact weight. If the formula is accurate somewhere between 6 -7 lbs. But I had a dog peak out at 4 lbs and has gained very little since 5 months. Is your dog compact built? or lanky? Its funny how some dogs look so much bigger then another based on their built.
Was the breeder accurate on parents weight? I have had several experiences where I was told one weight but to find out the dog was a full pound or more heavier then said. Not saying the person was trying to be dishonest because I didnt ask what scale they used and mine is very accurate.
I didnt have very good luck taping one of my dogs ears, but I gave up because she hated it, but I hear it can be very successful especially if started early. Did both parents ears stand? I now love my girls floppy flirty ears!
Good luck on your little yorkie puppy dog! Post a pic if you have one! |
