If the trim in the room is white, I'd go with that.
I had my bedroom have one deep red wall, and the rest of the walls were really hard to find a light color that went well with the red. The "cream" color that I had painted other areas of the house, and loved, looked very grey next to the red. Finally, I came up with a color that looks like melted french vanilla ice cream (which I mixed from two different colors I tried) and this eventually became the color I painted all my other rooms.
So if you're going with another color alltogether, it may take a few tries of actuall putting some paint on the walls--this is what I had to do--to find the right one.
