yes it can be dangerous. Even small dogs can get bloat which is caused by eating a lot and eating quickly. I know they get excited with new food sometimes. If they tend to gobble it up i like to place something in their dish to get them to eat slower, OR i take the food and put it in a cookie tray all spread out, OR spread it out on the kitchen floor (if you don't mind the mess), OR put it in a treat toy which drops the food out. This way they don't gobble the food and tons of air at the same time.
