Yes, it can be a sign of a shunt but I HIGHLY doubt that is the problem if this is the first of it and he doesn't have other symptoms. Dogs with LS do get UTIs and stones. It sounds like a urinary tract infection (don't know about the diarrhea though) and he should see a vet as soon as possible. He would just need antibiotics if that was the case.

If it is a UTI and it keeps coming back I would be concerned about a shunt. I believe all Yorkies should be tested anyway though.
