I've made a few beds myself and have found the fiberfill tends to ball up when I wash the bed so I've tacked them down around the edges.
The last one was made of black "shearling" - not a good choice as the fibers get all over everything and we can't see if the dog is sleeping on it when it's dark.
What have you used for cushioning?
