I think it needs a ribbon waistband with a bow with longish tails. Just my opinion, of course, but I feel it is asking for something to break up the expanse of red. Pretty darn cute, though! I've been thinking of building something similar for my two for Christmas!
I've started throwing together quick muslins of things I am making for the guys because I find the various patterns out there are so diverse in their sizing. And also, because I always want to change the pattern somehow!
