This is Hypothetically!

Say I had the option to get a puppy from a different country but they can only ship to an international airport. This airport is about 5 or so hour drive away and I don't have an option to drive. Do you think it would be OK to fly to the international airport a few hours or a day ahead and pick up the puppy at the airport (after going through customs) and then flying back home that same day with the puppy? Is there anything that have to be done? (like have a US medical record. can we still use the one from the breeder in the other country?)... Thanks
