A pedigree tells you about Cody's ancestors, his family tree, but it won't tell you anything about his health status. Ideally, a breeder will share the pedigree of the sire and dam with you before you purchase a puppy. That is also the time to ask what genetic testing and health screening she had done on Cody's parents before breeding them. Having a bile acids test done to check a puppy for liver shunt before bringing it home is also a good idea.
