are people a concern? she'll be at my house for thanksgiving and i wonder if i should keep her away from everyone until she has all shots? |
You should keep in mind that socialization is also a concern. My puppy training magazine (the one at Petsmart I think that has the yorkie pup on the cover) said that socialization must occur before 6 mos of age. I think if you have the puppy out at thanksgiving the pup will be fine. Diseases are definitely a concern but at the same time you can't shelter the pup to death- the puppy needs to get some exposure to people. My older dog was a stray and I got her at 6 mos and she's deathly afraid of people/bites and I think it's because she was improperly socialized before I got her and the damage was already done- so keep that in mind and I think the pup will be fine meeting new people at thanksgiving (maybe just hold her vs letting her run around). Good luck and congrats!
