sad.. I had a friend who experienced every tragic event that can take place when breeding..if I had been her, I would have stopped long before she did...
She bred her first champion bitch to another breeders specials/champion from the line...4 pups resulted. I used to go to her house twice daily to check on them while she worked. The pups were a week old (4) and I went to check..there was only one pup in the bed..and since the bitch was penned an xpen, I could not figure out what happended. There were a few tiny specks of blood on the pillow...nothing to indictation she ate them...but she had to because they were gone...the vet told her in he suspected hormonal...then when another did the same thing..and this time my friend was there..he thought perhaps stress. My friend used to keep her girls in a room with the other dogs, but in a separate pen...it may have stressed them too much, who knows...I have no clue.
I had a bitch who may have accidently pushed one puppy out of the bed or it got out on its own??? and my dear Ivy must have pulled it through the pen and hid it in the closet. I thought the mom killed it..that night I heard crying from my closet and found the puppy....it was cold, but somehow perked back up when returned to mom...it grew up healthy. Ivy was known to steal puppies and try to keep them for herself..I thought she was going in and out of my bedroom more often then normal that day..LOL
PS..they say moms can push away sickly babies or kill them...I used to wish my moms would do that..mine would devote so much time to the dying and dote on them..I felt so bad knowing they would probably lose them...
