Yep I trim them myself, although it doesn't need doing that often as their walks wear them down.

Just get them calm sitting on your knee or next to you and then what you can do is if you shine torch under the black ones you will be able to see where the 'quick' is, thats where you don't want to cut past. Just do a little bit at a time. Keep some quick stop or flour close by just in case you do cut a little bit too much.
