Whoever bred the dog (or cat) will have their kennel (or cattery) name preceeding whatever registered name is chosen. So I got my cat, Sophie, from New Destiny so whatever I decide to name her will have New Destiny ahead of it. If I was a breeder and used her in my program and say for instance my cattery name was "Fluffballs

"...then she would be known as "New Destiny blah blah blah OF FLUFFBALLS". It's done this way so you know who actually bred the cat/dog. If you were able to change the kennel name, then it would appear that you were the one that bred the dog's parents and produced it when someone else actually did it. And in order to show that another kennel owns the dog now, you add the "of" afterwards.
