Moms will eat their puppies if they feel their puppies are weak or sick. Just like they will push them aside to die if something is wrong with them. Another reason is believed that the mom is lacking some nutrient. I think it's not exactly known for sure but the reasons I gave you are some of the most popular reasons we think they eat their own puppies.
