Maya update It's been awhile since I posted how Maya my pom was doing. You may remember she was being treated for Cushings disease starting in April and was getting sicker and sicker. I switched specialists to the ER clinic I use for all the girls emergencies and they did some further testing after I told them Maya had lost over 3 lbs since April. They did a Liver biopsy during which they called me and told me she had stopped breathing but the critical care doctor was with her and trying to bring her around. They worked on her for over 30 minutes the whole time breathing for her and brought her around. They told me to come see her right away. When I got there the vet said you are going to think we are crazy since she looks perfectly fine now where 2 hours ago she was not breathing. Well Maya was diagnosed with severe liver disease and chirrosis brought on by the Cushing's medicine. SO we had to stop treating the Cushings and concentrate on the liver as the vet said it was more life threatening. Maya has been on medicine for about 2 months and had her tests last week and the specialist called me yesterday and said she was very happy with the results. Her liver disease is improving. Maya seems much better still a sick dog though. I had told this specialist 6 weeks a go that I wanted to do what I can for Maya but did not have unlimited funds. She has been great, She told me to get the lab done by my regular vet so it would be cheaper and that we could consult over the phone and I would not have to come in. She is great at calling me and checking on Maya. When she called yestrday she said they still talk about Maya and how amazing it was that the critical care doctor came in just as Maya stopped breathing and how she worked on her till she came out of it. We both agreed that we are looking at quality of life for Maya now not quantity. Sorry for the long post! I am just so happy Maya's quality of life is so much better than it was a few months ago. |
