Yes, there can be problems but not normally. When Lacy had her teeth pulled by a vet I used to work for, I watched. He told me that you had to be careful in pulling teeth because you can break the jaw if it's not done right. I think most vets know what they're doing though...never personally heard of anything going wrong.
