I hear this quite a bit and one cure is...

Tell your little one why your going out and give an idea of when you'll be home.

When I have to leave mine alone I say... I love you but mommy has to go do some running around (go to work), I'll be a few hours and will try to be back by xx time.

Trust me, my daycare dogs know what time they get picked up at. I have one that I've asked her mom to add an extra half hour to her eta.
