Just trying my best Thanks to all of you for the kind comments. I am just doing what I think any one of you would do, or any half way kind person. I am keeping trying to find his owners...one other call today, for a lost Lhasa Apso. It is so sad and upsetting to hear people tell me their stories about their lost dogs over the phone. I feel for everyone of them. My big lab mix took off one day, and I did not find him for almost an hour. Boy was I upset.
I hope I am doing right by him...I don't want to coddle him overly, but I think he enjoys the tiny cookie bones and his Filet Mignon flavored food! He also seems more interested in the goings on in the house- especially watching the kitten chase...whatever is handy at the moment (bread ties, stuffed mice, my sock).
I found both the dogs sleeping on the couch today. And I fed them at the same time for supper, and it was quite humorous to see TJ next to Myles, both eating in tandem! TJ just towers over Myles, so I am keeping an eye on their interactions so Myles does not get crushed! TJ is very good with smaller animals and children. He usually gets down to their level and lets them jump on him. I think, in a strange way, he is concerned about Myles, and is keeping an eye on him.
In case anyone is interested, I am a student at the University of Alabama, and am getting my Ph.D in Social Work (got my MSW from Tulane). Yes, we were Katrina evacuees. I never did go back except to get my stuff. Now the animals and I live in Northport, about 12 miles from Tuscaloosa. It has been a difficult few years, and I get emotional each year on 8/29. But it is working out well for all of us. I am just getting over a 200.00 emergency vet bill for the kitten, who followed his naughty sister out a screen window THEY pushed out. Grace (my Maine Coon) came back just fine, but Kenneth was scared, and hid under the house, and I could not see or hear him. He got flushed out by two nasty neighborhood dogs and bit up pretty bad. He is ok now, but gave me a big scare. Nothing like a 3 am vet visit with a bleeding cat to remind you of the important things in life. I may be broke, but we are happy!
Anyhow, that's my tale. Back to the saga of Myles as the tale progresses.
