All of ours are facing down, EXCEPT for the bigger spoons, knives, tongs, etc...they go on the top rack. And...I do not put like items together...like all spoons, etc....I make sure they are all mixed up, so they don't "nest" together and not get cleaned....although, putting all the spoons together would make putting them up easier....
