Animal Smiley 019 On walks...

Our Riley is only on a harness since he is prone to the 'collapsing trachea' issue, so there's no 'choke collar' of any kind (like I used - moderatley - in prior training of other breeds).

For walks, I usually say 'Riley, heal' whenever we're walking a sidewalk, parking lot or street, and make him let me lead. When he pulls, he gets a brief, short stop of via my wrist, with another quiet reminder to 'Riley heal'.

When I stop, he's supposed to sit, but usually needs an additional reminder (same technique as healing). Then when we get to an open patch where he can do his thing, I say, 'OK, running & pottying!' and snap the release on the expando-leash. This way, he has to listen for some of the walk, but also gets some run-around time...
