Yes, please don't swat him on the nose when he nips you. That will only encourage his behavior. Ignore him, don't give him any attention when he does this. That is one of the ways his mother thought him about bite inhibition. He'll soon learn that all the fun stops when he nips and being ignored is the worst punishment of all for a puppy.

As some of the others have said, don't feel badly if you decide that he is too much for you to handle. It is much kinder to find him a new loving home where he can be his spunky little self than to keep him and be upset with him.
