HAHA! This is so funny. My husband and I always go back and forth about this
I put everything facing up - EXCEPT the knives. Those I put in facing DOWN so that I don't stab myself in the hand or cut myself. My husband hates when I do this though because the pointy tips of the knives get caught in the little silverware holder thing...and then they end up scraping the bottom of the dishwasher and getting stuck when you try to pull the bottom "rack" out (where the plates ago). It IS annoying but I'd much rather deal with that than having a hand that's sliced open
