I have decently long fingernails, so I get my nails around the little booger, pinch him at the point where he is connected, and gently pull. They normall come off. You can't be squeamish about it, because the will squirm on you. You have to kill them, then. Either by impaling them (You can't just step on them) or my preferred way is to put them in a little cup of rubbing alcohol. Don't just wash them down the sink or try to flush them if they're still alive. They can crawl out!
